Microsoft + Yahoo < Google?

Microsoft makes an offer of about $42 billion to buy Yahoo (wanted to add irony by finding the article on Yahoo itself)

I like the start of the article: “Unable to topple Google Inc. on its own, Microsoft Corp. is trying to force crippled rival Yahoo Inc. into a shotgun marriage with a wager worth nearly $42 billion that the two companies together will have a better chance of tackling the Internet search leader.” Pretty much sums up the deal entirely. The question is: Do they have a chance even if combined to truly be a “rival” to Google? I personally don’t think so.
