My Thiggity Thoughts On Google’s “Anti-Tasting” Measure

(pardon the Ice Cube throwback)

First off, let’s get one thing straight right off the bat for people that might be confused about this new policy from Google: They are not doing it for any reason other than their own gain. Think about it: Given how many domains are tasted daily (now pretty much millions per day) vs. new registrations (many of which are also parked), this is a way for them to increase advertiser bids as the traffic percentage from parking pages would decrease with this rule in effect. Also, as Jay pointed out, they would likely be facing lawsuits sooner or later due to the TM infringement that occurs with their advertising on said names (though arguably that can and may happen anyways at some point as it’s a rampant problem aside from taasting). Public companies have one priority that drives their business: make their shareholders (and consequently themselves) happy, and in doing their advertisers well with this ploy, Google will surely gain a lot from it. The good news is that would help all of us usual domainers who do things the old-fashioned non-tasting way get more out of our parked and Adsensed domains. The bad news is that it won’t stop tasting at all.
