Thanks to wonderful NamePros.com member StrictlyNames, we have a juicy bit of news before it becomes official. What has resulted in the new reigning largest ccTLD domain sale in history (thankfully beating out the deranged Nav.no sale), Poker.de sold for €695,000, or $937,553.31 by current currency exchange rates, in the live domain name auction held by NicIt.com at the DomainFest Amsterdam conference. What can we learn from this? The same thing we can learn from the recent sales of Poker.com and Porn.com…NameMedia (BuyDomains/Afternic) REALLY messed up by getting rid of their adult and gambling domains and listings! They obviously didn’t know that porn and poker were both so loved!
Seriously though, this is an excellent sale that I hope will further give credence to ccTLDs that so many domainers seem to hate or simply ignore. At the very least, we can probably say that at least one German loves poker more than David Hasselhoff! Then again, if the buyer wasn’t German, Hasselhoff might still be in the clear…
